Ald. Andre Vasquez performs public-service rap at neighborhood event

Fortieth Ward Ald. Andre Vasquez was caught on video doing a public-service rap at a neighborhood event in his ward.

The former rapper and hip-hop artist, who went by the nom de plume "Prime," can be seen in a short video entertaining the assembled locals during the Sept. 30 Vision Avenue Block Jam at Ainslie Arts Plaza.

In his rap, Vasquez says he went from "rhyming in the back of the bus to writing a budget." The rap is a triptych of his brief aldermanic career, invoking everything from the crafting of city budgets to the renaming of Lake Shore Drive.
